Alabama State College, now Alabama State University, has played an instrumental part in providing exceptional educational opportunities for generations of African Americans in Alabama and beyond. The university has withstood the prevailing racial discriminatory public policies enacted by the State of Alabama to preserve a social order founded upon expressions of white supremacy and black inferiority. The many achievements of Alabama State University's faculty and students exposed the logical fallacies that supported Alabama's Jim Crow laws.
